Trout Pond

Finally got a chance to fish the pond on the Kerban Family Farm. The fish looked healthy (and some of them tasted really good, too). I was somewhat surprised that they were pretty challenging to catch. I released all the brookies back into the pond. I did harvest some rainbows for the table. I was surprised to see a amazing variety of aquatic insects in the trout tummies. Scuds as well as larvae of caddis, midge, dragonfly, damselfly, and a bunch of other things I couldn't identify. Seems there is plenty for them to eat. Now we'll have to see if they make it over the UP winter. Hoping to fish the pond again next summer with the boys. THAT should be fun.

Fishing in Heaven with Uncle Chuck

Got up to the Motherland (i.e. the Yoop) last week to attend the funeral of my Uncle Chuck. He was a really great guy....a musician, a Korean war Vet, a semi-pro baseball player, a heck of a steelhead fisherman and a very cool Uncle. He will be missed. I'm really hoping I see him again on a sparkling, heavenly stream FILLED with rising trout.

Here's a shot of my Uncle Chuck and Aunt Joan with Samuel from about a year ago.
